an open letter to director Tigmanshu Dhulia:
hello mr. director,
i have been loving your films till date. i loved haasil a lot, i remember Irrfan Khan swapping all the awards for best actor in villanious role category in each award function that year. It was a superb student political thriller. i also loved your next product Charas, despite viewers and critics bashing it badly. i think it was a fantastic fast paced narco-thriller. Again Irrfan Khan did a gr8 job. Then dont know why you vanished from the industry. People discussed you were doing Ghayal 2, Pan Singh Tomar and Shagird. Dont know why now Ghayal 2 is directed by Ashwini Dheer and what is the status of Pan Singh Tomar, but here is your outing after a lots of year, and that's Shagird.
This time you have not repeated your regular Irrfan Khan and Jimmi Shergil combo, and we have Nana Patekar and Mohit Ahlawat, and we dont mind that, though i believe Jimmi Shergil could do much better job in role of Mohit Kumar (Mohit Ahlawat), but as i said, i dont mind that, what i mind is that you have lost a bit of your touch too, with passed time. Though, the film is very good and i loved watching it too, but falls a bit weak to my expectations from you, that's it.
Nana Patekar as Hanumant Singh is terrific, loved his style of rendering Director, Actor, Actress, Film and Music Director's name after listening to any old song in the movie, simply rocking. :)
Mohit Ahlawat as Mohit Kumar is also very good, he looks quite innocent wherever required. Rimi Sen as reporter is strictly okay. Zakir Hussain and Anurag Kashyap are fantastic. What steals the show is dialogues and rough direction. The story has some flaw but is gripping for sure. [spoiler] i felt i would have loved the film if in last Mohit Kumar would have lived after giving some share to Hawala person, that would have called true Shagird.
Moreover i found promos to be misleading. From the promo, one feels Nana Patekar as honest police officer, which he is not.
Well, that's it, i loved that there weren't any songs, which were not at all required for this sattire. I hope you would make more films in future, and give us treasure to watch.
3 cheers for the film. [3/5]
with best regards,
